Analysis of Anxiety Scale in Halitosis Patients



Abstract
Most patients, not just patients with subjective halitosis, have anxiety about bad breath. The difference between patients with subjective halitosis and regular dental patients is that regular patients generally suffer from an organic disorder, whereas patients with subjective halitosis do not suffer from any organic disorder. Patients with subjective halitosis are afraid that their oral malodor may bother other people and interfere with their relationships with other individuals.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between halitosis and anxiety scale. The personal characteristics of halitosis patient were studied by symptom checklist-90-revision(SCL-90-R). 36 halitosis patients(experimental group), 36 other patients(control group) were selected for this study at the Halitosis Clinic, Kyung Hee Dental Hospital, Kyung Hee University. The used questionaires were Korean manual of Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI).

The obstained results were as follows :

1.No significant differences were found between the groups in their BAI and STAI.
2.No significant differences were found between the groups in their distribution of scales in BAI.
3. No significant differences were found between the groups in their distribution of scales in STAI.
4.In the halitosis patients, no significant associations were found in the value of halimeter and BAI.
5.In the halitosis patients, no significant associations were found in the value of halimeter and STAI.
6.In the halitosis patients, no significant differences were found between the subjective and objective halitosis patient in scales of BAI and STAI.
